2 Major Military Competition Wins and Transforming Defense Technology

In the past three weeks MatrixSpace achieved notable results in two rigorous, competitive military demonstration events for counter drone technologies. First, our team was awarded winner for best active sensing in the Army’s xTechCounter Strike competition at the Operation Flytrap 4.5 live fire exercise in Germany. Next, we won the Defense Innovation Unit’s C-UAS Low-Cost Sensing Challenge at Falcon Peak 25.2.

Setting up at Falcon Peak demonstration, Eglin AFB

In both competitions, we showed how ultra-portable AI-enabled and cloud-connected C-UAS detection solutions change the game for our defenders. Our solution showed the ability to create portable networks of radars, all seamlessly integrated through MatrixSpace AiCloud running on a local Edge Server. Our combination of ultra-low SWAP-C radar, AiEdge intelligence, and distributed C-UAS sensors operated via AiCloud successfully detected, tracked and classified every sortie that was flown at it, including RF-dark fiber FPVs, commercial drones, and custom-built UAVs.

Both competitions reflect what leadership at the Department of War have prioritized:

  • Commercially available and tested systems, over bespoke, exquisite products
  • Empowering theater-level decision-makers to quickly assess and access best-performing systems that meet their needs today
  • Increasing innovator competition
  • Accelerating innovation velocity
  • Reducing costs while achieving mass superiority

Both competitions required that solution providers meet specific performance, security, integration, production and operator usage/support requirements without bias for government contracting status.

This focus on openness, agility, scale and innovation is deeply woven into our DNA here at MatrixSpace. While we’re proud of the awards noted above, a new wave of invention is already in the works. We won’t get everything right the first time. But we iterate quickly and work closely with our customers and partners to refine concepts into practical solutions optimized for the guardians that rely on them in high-criticality operations.

I’ve personally worked in the defense technology industry for 25 years, and I am convinced that this new approach is making a difference for our homeland and allied warfighters. Companies like MatrixSpace are rapidly developing technology aligned with soldier feedback that quickly scales to factory production. This is an exciting time to be inventing in the interests of our national security!

Are you unafraid of hard problems? Are you motivated by making a difference to help protect people and places? Do you care about customers and colleagues you work with on a daily basis? MatrixSpace might be the right place for you! We’re looking for talented and dynamic people to help us create safe and secure places everywhere.
